. . . it was learning about science, beauty, engineering, art, math, and life — all through being outside. Would you like to learn ways you can help bring outdoor learning to your grandkids? Join us September 6th-8th for an educational retreat at Shadowcliff, a rustic and charming lodge nestled on the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park, to experience a fun, hands-on workshop that explores thematic activities, snacks, literature, crafts, music, and natural materials. Created in partnership with Project Learning Tree, Grandparents in Grand Lake is for adults only.
A Project Learning Tree trainer will guide you through simple and fun ideas that will connect you and your grandchildren to nature while providing great educational experiences. Make and take home a ready-to-use toolkit, guidebook, and music/sounds CD filled with great ideas on how to engage in outdoor exploration and play, while building critical skills for children ages 3 to 12. Your classroom will be both indoors and out, with stunning views no matter where you are. At meal times, gather to share stories and connections as well as delicious home cooked food. In the evening bask in the glow of a warm campfire, read in our cozy lounge, or take a stroll into Grand Lake. Aunts, uncles, nannies, and other childcare providers are welcome to attend.
Spend two nights at our cozy mountain lodge in a rustic, charming private room. Rooms overlook Grand Lake, the Shadowcliff campus, or the mountains. Shared gender-specific bathrooms are stocked each day with fresh towels.
Please note that Shadowcliff is located at 8500 ft. in the Rocky Mountains. If you are coming from a lower elevation, it may take time for you to adjust to the elevation. There are also many stairs on Shadowcliff’s property. There are at least two flights of stairs to reach lodge rooms. We have friendly, helpful staff that are more than willing to assist you with luggage, as well as an unloading ramp. But do be prepared for a good deal of exercise!
We serve home-cooked meals from our kitchen in a family-style dining room with the best view in town. With a focus on local and organic ingredients, our chef prepares delicious food with the current season in mind. All meals are served buffet style, featuring drinks, sides, a main dish, and varying accouterments.
