This week, we’re introducing you to two more of our wonderful staff: Ashley Newson and Jessica Frerk. Both have amazing backgrounds and we’re thankful they’ve joined us for the summer at Shadowcliff Lodge. Learn more about Ashley and Jessica:
Name: Ashley Newson- Age: 22
- Where are you from? Kansas City, MO
- What made you want to work at Shadowcliff? The mission statement of Shadowcliff spoke to me, as well as the location and opportunities.
- Coolest place you’ve ever visited: Curu National Wildlife Preserve in Costa Rica.
- If you could be an expert in anything, what would it be? Persuasion.
- Favorite movie: Into the Wild and Across the Universe.
- What is something you would definitely want in your dream home? A slide or pole that connects the 2nd story to the 1st floor, and unique art from my travels.
- The next place you would like to visit? Australia & New Zealand.
- Favorite activity in Grand Lake: Hiking the trails and people-watching at the park.
- Do you have a weird talent/skill? What is it: I can throw a frisbee four different ways.
- What was your first pet? A black cat that I named Rose when I was three. We rescued her from the woods and she was the most sweet and calm cat.
- If you were stranded on an island what three items would you want to have with you? A houseboat, a guitar, and a book.
- What famous and/or historical figure, dead or alive, would you want to have dinner with and what is one question you would ask? Frida Kahlo – How did painting help you to overcome your frustrations with Mexican society and your personal life? How did painting make you feel?

- Where are you from? Grants Pass, OR
- What made you want to work at Shadowcliff? I made the decision to attend DU this fall so working at Shadowcliff seemed like an appropriate transition. This is definitely the place to recharge.
- Coolest place you’ve ever visited: Sailing around Santa Barbara.
- If you could be an expert in anything, what would it be? Making pottery.
- Favorite movie: Anything with Adam Sandler.
- What is something you would definitely want in your dream home? Outdoor fire pit with lots of trees and hanging lights.
- The next place you would like to visit? Anywhere I get the chance to visit.
- Favorite activity in Grand Lake: Hiking
- Do you have a weird talent/skill? What is it: I’m a personal trainer and spend a good deal of time weightlifting.
- What was your first pet? Aside from family pets, Marley was a rottweiler I rescued. Best dog I’ll ever have.
- If you were stranded on an island what three items would you want to have with you? A journal, a hammock, and music.
- What famous and/or historical figure, dead or alive, would you want to have dinner with and what is one question you would ask? Michel de Montaigne and I’d ask him for a list of books to read.
