Still Point Sessions
Individual artist residencies, woven through the season
At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is- excerpt from "Burnt Norton," T.S. Eliot
T.S. Eliot wrote of time as an eternal present, where past and future collapse into one. That spirit is at the heart of this program.
Still Point Sessions are individual, one-week residencies offered throughout the Shadowcliff season. They are quieter and lighter in structure than the September artist residency; no itinerary to follow, no cohort to synchronize with. What they offer is time, a particular landscape, and the chance to work without the accumulated noise of ordinary life. The artists who come for Still Point Sessions work across a wide range of forms. Each resident arrives with a practice and a set of questions. What happens here is largely up to them.
Like all of Shadowcliff's residency programs, Still Point Sessions includes one commitment that faces outward: an informal, free public event that gives Grand County residents a window into the resident's work and a chance for real conversation. These gatherings are open to everyone.
How Still Point Sessions Works
Still Point Sessions is an invitational program, with residencies scheduled during quieter periods in the Shadowcliff season: late spring, midsummer, and fall. Residents have access to Shadowcliff's grounds, facilities, and the resources of Grand County, with light logistical support and space to work as they need to.
Each residency concludes with a practice sharing: a brief, informal public event in Grand Lake where the resident offers something of their work and a conversation with the community.
If you're an artist, creative researcher, or practitioner drawn to what Shadowcliff offers, we'd love to hear from you. Write to Alexander at [email protected].
