4th of July at Shadowcliff

Grand Lake has no shortage of ways to spend the Fourth. We're offering one more.

There’s a quiet beauty in Grand Lake on summer evenings: the light receding over the mountains, air cooling as the sun drops, the stillness that settles in even when the night is full of people. The town has canceled fireworks this year, but we’re still gathering at the lodge for dinner on the table, music as the sky darkens, and conversation and good company on the point.

We hope you’ll join us.

The evening begins at 6:30 with dinner prepared by our Compassionate Kitchen: slow-seasoned ground beef and shredded chicken, black bean salad, cilantro lime rice, mixed greens, guacamole, salsa, pickled red onion, and corn tortilla chips. Dinner will be followed by a dessert table: chocolate cake, peanut butter pie, and a trio of fruit pies: peach, cherry, and blueberry. We'll toast each other with a festive mocktail. Vegan and gluten-free guests will be well looked after.

Then, as dusk settles in, we’ll gather in the chapel for live music by members of the Shadowcliff community. We’ll enjoy songs by the people who cook, tend, and care for this place, alongside volunteers and friends who have been part of its life for years.

Then, we’ll gather on the point under the waning gibbous moon to admire the lake , breathe the mountain air, and linger with good company. If it’s cold enough, we'll roast marshmallows around the Rempel Lodge indoor fireplace.
