Matana Roberts

New Solo Saxophone Improvisations

Tuesday, September 22 7:30 PM

Shadowcliff Mountain Lodge & Retreat Center, 105 Co Rd 663, Grand Lake, CO 80447

Join saxophonist and multidisciplinary artist Matana Roberts for an evening of new solo saxophone improvisations in Shadowcliff's historic chapel.

Roberts is perhaps best known for Coin Coin, an ongoing twelve-part cycle that weaves together history, narrative, community, and political life into what they have described as "panoramic sound quilting."

Roberts has performed at Newport Jazz Festival, Big Ears, Berliner Festspiele, and concert halls across Europe and the United States. Their work has been described as soul-baring, transporting, and "like getting a glimpse into another dimension."

This performance is part of Shadowcliff's 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies, bringing artists to the mountains for a week of creative work in Grand Lake.

2026 Still Point Sessions residencies have been supported, in part, by a grant from the Town of Grand Lake Donor Advised Fund.
