Celebrating a Life of Love and Compassion: Remembering Patt Rempel

On Wednesday, May 9th at 12:55 am, Shadowcliff co-founder and beloved Rempel family mom and grandma Patt Rempel passed from this world to the next. She was surrounded by family and friends, and left this world in a peaceful state.

In the months leading up to Patt’s passing she visited with our Board of Directors and shared heartfelt words about why she and Warren founded Shadowcliff, and what her hopes were for our future. We are all grateful to have had a chance to reconnect with her wonderful spirit one last time. Her gifts to Shadowcliff and beyond were too many to list.

Just a few days before Patt left us, Sue, Patt and Warren’s daughter, shared with us that family and friends “had a wonderful day of celebration where we all shared our love for mom through song and prayers and stories.” As people emailed and called with their messages of love and prayers for Patt, Sue read them to her.  In Sue’s words, Patt got “a tear in her eye as if she is touched by their message of love.”

Sue also shared the following on the morning Patt passed:

“She was incredibly peaceful and beautiful and full of grace as she slept last night.  She quietly and gently stopped breathing… her heart was so open and she was so ready to move out of this body and into this next part of her life.  Her eyes were open all night,  looking up, as if she were seeing dad, or Scott, or the light people talk about seeing as they approach end of life.  After she took her last breath, she closed her lips and had a gentle smile on her face.  It could not have been a more beautiful and peaceful experience. “

Patt requested that those who wish to honor her life could do so with a contribution to Shadowcliff, the place she and Warren built with their hands, hearts, and souls. Contributions made by check should clearly state “In honor of Patt Rempel” on the memo line and be mailed to Shadowcliff, PO Box 658, Grand Lake, CO, 80447. The Rempel family will hold a memorial service for Patt on August 11th at Montview Church in Denver. This blog will be updated with details as we have them. Please hold the Rempel family in your hearts as they both mourn the loss and celebrate the life of a wonderful woman.
