Shadowcliff Facilities Support

Wanted: Roofing & Solar Expertise

The following information and request has been provided by Shadowcliff Board member and chair of Facilities committee, Chris Van Roekel.

In planning for the May 2022 opening activities at Shadowcliff the facilities committee is seeking help finding a roof inspector who could help us identify the source of an ongoing water leak on the roof Riverbend cabin. During the last number of years, volunteers and maintenance staff at Shadowcliff have worked hard to address the water leak issue and have had success in doing so, but unfortunately the leak is back and needs to be taken care of to ensure guests at the Riverbend cabin have a great (and dry) stay at Shadowcliff!

Over the course of the past year the facilities committee has also been collecting information to better understand how Shadowcliff may utilize solar panels on site to further decrease our environmental impacts. One of the key details that the committee identified was understanding how the lodges and cabins on site may, or may not be able to support any type of solar array. We believe that in addition to the current internal knowledge of the structures and buildings of cabins and lodges at Shadowcliff an external resource, such as inspector or contractor would be needed to answer questions about the feasibility of a solar array.

Do you know someone in the Grand Lake, Grand County, or Fort Collins area who may be able to help us inspect the roof in early May and determine the root cause of this issue or help us answer questions about solar arrays on structures? Have you had a great experience with a roof inspector or a roofing company? If so, we would love to hear from you!

You can direct your recommendations to Chris Van Roekel, Shadowcliff facilities committee chair at his email address, [email protected]

p.s. Stay tuned for more details coming later in February regarding May projects we are planning for opening the 2022 Season! We will also let you know how our plans for Volunteer Weekend (over the Memorial Day weekend) are shaping up.

Thank you for leading our Facilities Committee, Chris!
